Wales 2016, Day 1

02:05

Hey hey my good people and how are you today? This week my dad took me and my brother to Wales for a quick get away in the sun, and even allowed me to bring a friend so he could get his money's worth on the two hotel bedrooms - myself sharing with Evie C. It was so nice to have deep chats with her in the midst of night and friendly banter the rest of the time - as well as having my own beautiful personal model at hand in such a lovely city.

We were there for 3 days, however the last day was shorter so I shall throw those photos in with day two next week. I kept my 50mm lens on the whole time - I think it's quickly becoming my favourite as I LOVE playing with the aperture and shallow depths of field to make the image more interesting and intriguing, inviting the viewer to decipher everything that is going on. Not to mention it's small and much more manageable and portable when I just want to take my camera round my neck in public without all the extra luggage of more lenses.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy more Welsh photography!

This was the first photo taken, oh the excitement and fun we all face.
As I said before, it was SO nice to have my buddy with me so I wasn't alone in a room on my own - although that would have it's perks - and to have a girly companion to discuss make up , clothes and boys.
Of course we went to Davies Of Mumbles, the most delicious pastie makers I know - Lamb and mint if you please YUM!
Oh and I reeled us all in for a delicious Joe's ice cream everyday, treat yo self, it's a holiday - and Joe's are truly scrumptious!
At this parlour they had a selection of flavours, but Joe's specialise in vanilla ice cream - of which we all had on the last day and my oh my is it good!

An ice cream makes everybody smile, frozen yumminess in a cone yes please.
Me and the hashtag lads.
Dad seemed to be having a bit of bother with his ice cream... so naturally I snapped it, for the aesthetic of course ;)
After our ice creams were eaten, we headed down to the beach, heading towards the pier.
I brought everyone off the footpath and down to the pebbly beach as I spotted this pipe which had water splashing against it and seized the photo op.
The boys - as ever - began skimming stones across the water and we all laughed and told Eve the story of how dad once tried to skim a stone across the sea but "forgot to let go" and hit a boat sitting behind us with a large thud that received a scolding from mom but giggles from me and my brother.
As we ended the skimming sesh and continued on our merry way, Alex spotted this small, battered teddy bear abandoned on the rocks.
It's the simplest pier with an arcade outside it's gate and a lifeboat shed at it's end, but we all sat around below this sign and chatted, mucked around and each had a turn taking photos of each other.
I dived all in with the candids on this trip, and encouraged everyone else to do the same - they're just so much nicer than posed family photos as you can see the natural beauty and enjoyment in the holiday rather than having to stand in a line with your awkward cousin three ties removed smiling like you want to be at a fancy dinner.

Dad, pinching the lighthouse on the furthest headland/second "mumble"
Alex took this pleasant photo of me and Eve while we were chatting. Among many appalling mugshots of me which shall never see the light of day again - It would seem not all of us have the talent of clicking at the smile rather than mid sentence when your brows are furrowed and lips are pursed crookedly.
After soaking up the sun for a pleasant while we went inside for slushies and began discussing what to have for dinner. To our dismay our beloved Eddie's diner had closed so we settled for Frankie and Benny's - still delish.
After our dinner was served to us by the friendliest waitress we went for a wander around the marina and found some multicoloured lights on the ground, which Eve and I played with for a while.
I rarely do night time photography so getting the right settings were tricky af. We took many more photos together but they were just too blurry, unfocused or dark.
We took turns with these light shots, experimenting with positions and even lighting.
While we walked back to the car park over the bridge I snapped Eve in various positions and we walked.
I played with the focus to toy with the bokeh effect but I still like this one as her pointing finger is near enough in focus and that's good enough for me hahaa.
After I took this I was so chuffed it's not even edited - I shit you not I haven't edited this image. I was so proud with how Brandon Woelfel it looks I kept showing it to everyone. I just love the lights and reflections on her glasses.
And there you have it! There is of course more portraits of us beautiful lot to come along with some more illuminating pics. Do let me know your favourite images from this post or even if you've enjoyed a Joe's ice cream in Wales.

Cheerio loved ones - Beky x
